Homeland Security announced the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Burma
On March 12, 2021, Burma was designated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months based on the ongoing crisis there. TPS designation allows Burmese nationals (and individuals who habitually reside in Burma without nationality) currently residing in the U.S. to file initial applications for TPS. If you are granted TPS, you cannot be removed from the U.S. during the period of TPS, you can obtain work authorization, and you can obtain travel authorization. While TPS does not lead to permanent resident status in the U.S., you can still apply for nonimmigrant status or adjust based on an immigrant petition. To qualify for TPS, applicants must show that they have been continuously living in the U.S. since March 11, 2021. The Department of Homeland Security will issue guidelines at a later date which will provide additional eligibility requirements as well as explain the procedure to file a TPS application. https://www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/temporary-protected-status
